Philosophy of Physics at the University of Bonn

With a chair in Philosophy of Science and Philosophy of Nature held by Prof. Dr. Andreas Bartels, the new Lichtenberg-Professor in History and Philosophy of Physics (funded by the Volkswagen Foundation), Prof. Dr. Dennis Lehmkuhl, and several research projects with around ten researchers, the University of Bonn is one of the leading institutions in the philosophy and history of physics in Germany. The research topics include philosophy of spacetime, model building in particle physics, philosophy of quantum mechanics, and general philosophy of science. Currently, Bonn has three projects funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG): "Model Building and Dynamics" and "LHC and Gravity" which are both part of the research unit "The Epistemology of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC)" as well as "Modality in Physics and Metaphysics" which is part of the research unit "Inductive Metaphysics". Formerly, the project "Individuality, Distinguishability, and Entanglement" was also situated at Bonn University (now University of Siegen).
