Philosophy of Physics at the University of Bonn

With the new Lichtenberg-Professor in History and Philosophy of Physics (funded by the Volkswagen Foundation), Prof. Dr. Dennis Lehmkuhl, the former chair in Philosophy of Science and Philosophy of Nature, Prof. Dr. Andreas Bartels, and several research projects with around 15 researchers, the University of Bonn is one of the leading institutions in the history and philosophy of physics in Germany. The research topics include history and philosophy of theories of spacetime and gravitation, model building in particle physics, philosophy of quantum mechanics, and general philosophy of science. Currently, Bonn has three projects funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG): "Model Building and Dynamics" and "LHC and Gravity" which are both part of the research unit "The Epistemology of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC)", and "Modality in Physics and Metaphysics" which is part of the research unit "Inductive Metaphysics".
